This application is meant for people who were citizens of Botswana by birth or descent but have ceased to be citizens of Botswana. The purpose of this service is to resume the Botswana citizenship for former citizens.

Who is eligible?

Botswana citizens by birth or descent who lost/ceased to be citizens of Botswana and wish to resume their Botswana citizenship.

How do I get this service?

 

  • Completed Form S
  • After processing, the applicant will be notified of the outcome
  • If successful, the applicant will be issued with Certificate of Resumption   
What supporting documents are required?
  • Completed Form S
  • Two passport size coloured photos.
  • Late renunciation form
  • Certified copy of unbridged birth certificate
  • Certified copy of parents’ marriage certificate (if applicable).
  • Proof of parents’ citizenship status (certified copies of Passport, Omang and Citizenship Certificate (if applicable)
  • Copy of previous Botswana Passport or Omang
  • Application letter 
  • Applicant’s marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Copy of Botswana's Renunciation Certificate
  • Certified copies of foreign identity/citizenship documents
How long will this service take?

Approximately one month.
