Overview

The Prospecting Licence allows a company to prospect or explore mineral deposits within specified geographic coordinates in Botswana.  

Who is eligible?

Citizen or non-citizen companies that have:

  • Established domicilium citandi et executandi (the place where legal notices can be served on you) in Botswana.
  • Not been in liquidation or under judicial management except where such liquidation or judicial management is part of scheme for reconstruction or amalgamation of such company.
  • None of the Directors or Shareholders are disqualified as an individual under above requirements of an individual.
How do I get this service?
  • Download, complete the Prospecting License Application Form and submit with supporting documents to the nearest office.
  • Undergo financial competency interview.
  • Undergo technical competency interview.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Clearance from Department of Wildlife and National Parks if area is in a conservation area.
  • One (1) copy of certified company registration.
  • One (1) copy of certified shareholders certificate.
  • One (1) copy of environmental management plan.
  • Proof of adequate financial capability (latest three months banks statements or audited financial statements).
  • Company profile showing the company origin, eligibility and history.
  • CV of geologist(s).
  • Binding agreement for Joint Ventures.
  • Binding agreement between applicant and financiers.
  • Police clearance and affidavit for precious metals and precious stones.
How long will this service take?

Sixty (60) days 

In case of application deficiency, the application is given 21 days to rectify the deficiency. If submission is not received within 21 days rejection is instituted.
