Corporate Services provides strategic direction and guidance in the provision of corporate services functions to the Ministry through effective mobilization, management and utilization of resources, monitoring and implementation of the Ministry’s development projects to ensure effective execution of the ministry’s core mandate. Corporate Services is responsible for providing human and financial resources and implementation of the public service policy.
DEPARTMENT OF TERTIARY EDUCATION FINANCING (DTEF)
The DTEF is responsible for implementing and overseeing policies related to tertiary education financing in Botswana. It addresses the country's technical and manpower needs by performing key functions such as student placement, disbursement of funds, career guidance, monitoring of performance, loan recovery, and contract management with institutions and service providers. The tertiary education services are automated therefore applicants are expected to post their sponsorship online.
Core Functions of DTEF:
1. Student Placement:
o Awarding sponsorship to students for local and international training.
o Arranging prerequisite courses for students applying to foreign institutions.
o Facilitating placements for all students, including those with special needs.
o Managing agreements between the government and sponsored students.
o Sponsorship administration and reinstating students previously terminated due to poor performance.
2. Disbursement of Funds:
o Facilitating tuition fee payments and student allowances.
o Managing student bank accounts for sponsorship payments.
3. Career Guidance and Counselling:
o Providing career guidance and counselling services for sponsorship beneficiaries.
o Offering social welfare services for students in need.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation of Students' Performance:
o Monitoring the academic performance of sponsored students.
o Making informed decisions based on performance evaluations.
5. Loans Recovery:
o Preparing expenditure and bills for sponsored students.
o Managing the recovery of funds from beneficiaries.
o Following up with defaulters and managing litigation cases.
6. Contracts Management:
o Managing service agreements with training institutions.
o Handling contracts with health insurance providers for students studying abroad.
o Managing contracts with insurance providers for students on work attachments abroad.
o Coordinating contracts with financial institutions for disbursement of funds.
Types of Sponsorships
1. New Student Sponsorship:
For learners who completed secondary education in previous years and have obtained 36 points at BGCSE/IGCSE or equivalent .Government reserves the right to change
2. Top Achiever Sponsorship:
Awarded to students with at least 6 A* grades at BGCSE/IGCSE or equivalent . Must have been achieved at first examination sitting
3. Donor Sponsorship:
For students meeting specific donor criteria.
4. Elite Sponsorship:
For students excelling in sports, awarded in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Arts.
5. BSc Career Designation Sponsorship:
BSC- General level 100 students with a GPA of 4.5. for external placement in Africa region
6. Repeat Sponsorship:
For students who meet repeat category conditions, subject to budget availability.
7. Progression Sponsorship:
For specific programs that facilitate progression in studies, advised by the HRDC or Professional bodies . Offered subject to availability of funds.
8. Special Dispensation Sponsorship:
For vulnerable learners, such as orphans, rural community dwellers, and students with special education needs.
General Requirements for Sponsorship:
• Must be a Botswana citizen.
• Must meet the minimum cutoff points for the relevant program.
• Age limit: Below 35 years old. Must complete training before 35th Birthday.
• Must have a recognized school-leaving certificate (e.g., IB, A-Level, IGCSE, BGCSE, etc. or certificate acquired in foreign Countries).

1. Certified copy of BGCSE/IGCSE or equivalent results
Certified at former schools or Regional Education Centres.
2. Certified copy of Identity Card (Omang)
Certified at the National Registration Office.
3. Current admission letter to the institution.
4. Affidavit
If there is a change of name or omission of names.
Additional Requirements for OVC, RADP, SPED Applicants:
• Must be registered under the social welfare programme.
• Must attach a confidential social enquiry report.
• Applications must be routed through the Social Welfare Office, Community Development Office, or Special Education Division.
• Must meet specific cut-off points for these categories.
Important Facts:
• Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee sponsorship.
• Applicants will be assessed based on results, with competition for a limited number of sponsorships.
• Points must fall within the set cut off points for the relevant financial year.
• Results must meet the minimum academic requirements for eligibility.
• If the documents on which the offer was based are found to be fraudulent at any time, one will face serious penalties including withdrawal of such an offer.
• Students must sign a loan agreement sponsor prior to commencement of studies

Core Functions of DTEF:
1. Student Placement:
o Awarding sponsorship to students for local and international training.
o Arranging prerequisite courses for students applying to foreign institutions.
o Facilitating placements for all students, including those with special needs.
o Managing agreements between the government and sponsored students.
o Sponsorship administration and reinstating students previously terminated due to poor performance.
2. Disbursement of Funds:
o Facilitating tuition fee payments and student allowances.
o Managing student bank accounts for sponsorship payments.
3. Career Guidance and Counselling:
o Providing career guidance and counselling services for sponsorship beneficiaries.
o Offering social welfare services for students in need.

5. Loans Recovery:

Types of Sponsorships
1. New Student Sponsorship:
For learners who completed secondary education in previous years and have obtained 36 points at BGCSE/IGCSE or equivalent .Government reserves the right to change
2. Top Achiever Sponsorship:
Awarded to students with at least 6 A* grades at BGCSE/IGCSE or equivalent . Must have been achieved at first examination sitting
3. Donor Sponsorship:
For students meeting specific donor criteria.
4. Elite Sponsorship:
For students excelling in sports, awarded in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Arts.
5. BSc Career Designation Sponsorship:
BSC- General level 100 students with a GPA of 4.5. for external placement in Africa region
6. Repeat Sponsorship:
For students who meet repeat category conditions, subject to budget availability.
7. Progression Sponsorship:
For specific programs that facilitate progression in studies, advised by the HRDC or Professional bodies . Offered subject to availability of funds.
Special Dispensation Sponsorship:
For vulnerable learners, such as orphans, rural community dwellers, and students with special education needs.
General Requirements for Sponsorship:
• Must be a Botswana citizen.
• Must meet the minimum cutoff points for the relevant program.
• Age limit: Below 35 years old. Must complete training before 35th Birthday.
• Must have a recognized school-leaving certificate (e.g., IB, A-Level, IGCSE, BGCSE, etc. or certificate acquired in foreign Countries).
Documents Required for Application:
1. Certified copy of BGCSE/IGCSE or equivalent results
Certified at former schools or Regional Education Centres.
2. Certified copy of Identity Card (Omang)
Certified at the National Registration Office.
3. Current admission letter to the institution.
4. Affidavit
If there is a change of name or omission of names.
Additional Requirements for OVC, RADP, SPED Applicants:
• Must be registered under the social welfare programme.
• Must attach a confidential social enquiry report.
• Applications must be routed through the Social Welfare Office, Community Development Office, or Special Education Division.
• Must meet specific cut-off points for these categories.
Important Facts:
• Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee sponsorship.
• Applicants will be assessed based on results, with competition for a limited number of sponsorships.
• Points must fall within the set cut off points for the relevant financial year.
• Results must meet the minimum academic requirements for eligibility.
• If the documents on which the offer was based are found to be fraudulent at any time, one will face serious penalties including withdrawal of such an offer.

o Maximum points: 3 x 12 = 36 points

o Points %: 34/36 = 94.4%
o 94.4% x 48/100 = 45 points
3. Matric HG:
o Maximum points: 4 x 10 = 40 points
Example Calculation:
o Best 4 subjects: Biology + Chemistry + Tourism + Mathematics = 33 points
o Points %: 33/40 = 82.5%
o 82.5% x 48/100 = 39.6 points
