Departments/Sections and Key Functions

The Ministry’s mandate is executed through (5) Departments and 10 Parastatals from the former Ministry of Trade and Industry and five (5) Departments and two Parastatals from the former Ministry of Entrepreneurship as indicated below. This is pending reconstitution of the Ministry to suite the merged functions of the above alluded to Ministries.

  • Department of Corporate Services (DCS) - Provides strategic direction and guidance in the provision of corporate services functions through effective mobilisation, management and utilisation of resources (Human and Financial) to ensure effective execution of the Ministry’s core mandate.
  •  Department of Industry Development (DID) - Promotes development of industry through formulation and review of policies and legislation aimed at stimulating investment, sustainable and competitive industries as well as economic growth and diversification;
  • Department of Trade Development (DTD) - Promotes trade development and creation of market access through bilateral, regional and multilateral trade agreements/ treaties. The Department is also responsible for promoting the growth and development of internal trade and fair business practices, through implementation of policies and legislation in order to contribute to the economic growth of Botswana;
  • Department of Business Services- Coordinates and facilitates all efforts aimed at diversifying the economy by ensuring a conducive business and investment environment;
  • Department of Research and Policy Development- Conducts economic policy research as well as formulates and support implementation, monitoring and evaluation of trade and industry policies and strategies to contribute to sustainable and diversified economy.
  • Department of Enterprise Development: Facilitates establishment and growth of sustainable enterprises.
  • Department of Value Chains:  Coordinates value chain development across the economy.
  • Department of Cluster Development: Cluster development and coordination of existing clusters across key sectors.
  • Department for Co-operatives Development: Promotes capacity building and cooperative management.
  • Department of Economic Empowerment: Enables Batswana targeted citizens to actively participate and economically benefit from the business ecosystem.
