Overview
The process involves the transferring of ownership of a firearm from one person to another.
Who is eligible?
- Any person aged 18 years and above
- Applicant should have no criminal record
How do I get this service?
- The firearm license owner should write a letter to the Commissioner of Police requesting for permission to transfer ownership.
- In a case whereby the firearm is being inherited the deceased owner’s designated family members (siblings, parents, guardians e.t.c.) have to provide the request letter to the Commissioner of Police.
- The recipient should also write an acceptance letter to accompany the licensed owner’s request letter.
- After approval, download and complete Application For Permit to Acquire Firearms(Change of Ownership) form and Application for Registration Certificate form. Application forms are also available at all Police Stations.
What supporting documents are required?
- Valid National Identification document (Omang)
- Non-citizens must present a valid passport and residence permit
- In case of an inheritance attach copies of relevant documents such as;
- Death certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Firearm certificate
- For first time firearm ownership the applicant should provide a police clearance report
